Matthew Schaefer NHL Debut Game Used Away Jersey

Matthew Schaefer, the New York Islanders No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 Draft, made his NHL debut Thursday night in Pittsburgh ... and he did it in historic fashion. Schaefer recorded his first career assist to become the youngest defenseman in NHL history to notch a point in his debut at 18 years and 34 days old. 

After just 17:15 of ice time, Schaefer already has an NHL record to his name. 

During the game, he wore multiple jerseys to honor the milestone. One will go home with him — a recognition of the biggest moment of his hockey life thus far and a memento he will surely cherish forever. Islanders Game Originals is making the jersey Schaefer wore during the second period available to fans at auction, beginning less than 24 hours after his debut.
